I know!! Itโ€™s been a toouughh week ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Iโ€™m not even going to go there.

Instead, Iโ€™m going to share some good news! ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŽ‰

A new study delving into 100 companiesโ€™ disclosure finds that sustainability reporting works! โœ… Reporting drives internal understanding of the issues that matter, and reflection on what to do about them. In other words: good reporting expectations do drive good internal due diligence practices ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ก And double materiality is now mainstream ๐ŸŒฑ (Thanks Frank Bold, study here ๐Ÿ™Œ).

We have made progress since the Paris Agreement ๐ŸŒ. Projected warming has fallen (from 3.9ยฐC to 2.6ยฐC) ๐Ÿ“‰. Net-zero targets are a thing (over 100 countries have them) ๐ŸŽฏ. Investments in clean energy have risen (to double those of fossil fuels) โšก๏ธ

Saudi Arabia ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฆ has announced that it will abolish its kafala system and replace it with a contractual model ๐Ÿค. This is huge for the hundreds of thousands of migrant workers involved in building stadiums for the 2034 World Cup ๐ŸŸ๏ธโšฝ๏ธ

And the Paris Court of first instance (tribunal judiciaire) ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท has just pronounced itself on net-zero greenwashing ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ The court found that TotalEnergies misled consumers into believing that it could achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 while increasing oil and gas production ๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ

So, while we're grappling with the headwinds of politics, letโ€™s remember this week that there are steps forward ย ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’š

These are Jane Goodallโ€™s words that you will have heard me reference if we chatted this week:
