This is the song 🎶 that my 7-year old came home from school singing this week. It makes me feel really emotional whenever I hear her sing it. Kids are doing what they can. I see it - developing recycling projects, creating new plays and songs, drawing posters, spotlighting environmental issues.🌿
But it’s on us.
We are the adults.
We are the ones who are part of this system, and it’s on us to change it.
The new science released as part of the State of the Climate report shows us how dire the situation is, and how people are at the heart of this.
If we are not doing everything in our power to pivot the ‘business as usual’ mindset to a ‘shift the paradigm’ mindset, then we’re simply not trying hard enough.
I still remember where I was when I first read about Stephen Covey’s distinction between circle of concern and circle of influence: on a boat in the sun in Thailand years ago! And I think about it often.
We all have more influence than we think to shift business practice to where it needs to be. ⛓️💥 We have our work, and we can influence colleagues, bosses, peers, business partners… By taking intentional and committed action each and every day to ensure we advance with speed and ambition toward a rights-respecting net zero future, we show the kids: We take note, and we do care. And this is how it’s done.
