🎂 I love a good birthday!!

It’s only with old(er) age (!), that I’ve come to fully appreciate the importance of birthdays, and commemorations, and celebrations.

If we don’t mark the moment, it goes before you know it.

I had my birthday last week! My new age starts with a 4 and ends with a 4. 😆

Our team member Jannicke who comes from Germany told me that in Germany, this is called a Schnapszahl (a booze number!), when your age in double digits is the same number.

These birthdays are viewed as extra lucky and fun. 🌟 Yes, bring it!

I’m feeling it already!

We’ve celebrated this month the UN Guiding Principles’ 15th birthday and the OECD Guidelines’ 50th birthday. We’ve got together in Copenhagen, we’ve got together in London. A lot of you have been together in Paris.

And we are making progress, we are. 🌍

A few updates:

📌 What are you doing next Tuesday 3 pm CET?

Come join a webinar hosted by the UN Global Compact and Shift to delve into the CSDDD consultation submission - this will help you with your ‘homework’ (aka the submission to the European Commission later this month). Shift will be sharing their submission for inspiration. Register here.

📌 We hosted a series of just transition events during LCAW that we have talked about on our Human Level LinkedIn page.

Of particular interest for practitioners, we are putting together the key takeaways from our roundtable convened with the UN Global Compact, with PRI, UNEP-FI and OECD. See here for more on that for now and some lovely photos!

📌 You’ll have seen all of the forced labour updates happening this month. So many.

I delved into all of them because I am particularly interested in how the regulators will see the forced labour bans combining with meaningful human rights due diligence.

So it was really fantastic to see such a strong focus on meaningful due diligence in both the European Commission’s guidance for the EU Forced Labor Regulation, as well as the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)’s new guidance for Section 307 of the Tariff Act and the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA). To find out more about all of these developments, check out my latest newsletter here.

📌 A lot of you have asked me for my remarks on AI and human rights made at the keynote speech in Copenhagen (that I speak about here). I will be writing them up for you next week.

📌 Lots of discussions going on about the new measures giving teeth to Chinese decree 834. This week I spoke about them at a webinar with over 200 people! I also have a write up for you coming.

So next week I owe you quite a lot of stuff…

But for now, I’m taking a little break for my daughter’s Sports Day. She said this morning. “I couldn’t sleep! I was so excited, I wanted to close my eyes and immediately be there.”

When did you last feel that level of excitement for something?

For my new Schnapszahl year, I want to feel that more. I hope you will too.

See you soon, Anna 💫

👇 Not my cake (I wish!), but some inspiration just in case anyone in your family loves Harry Potter as much as my daughter.
